What to consider when choosing your crockery

If you have several sets of crockery, then there are a couple of factors to take into account when deciding which one to use for your event. These are:

The number of guests, and number of courses that you are planning on serving will help to determine which set of crockery may work for your dinner party. Make sure that you will have enough pieces of crockery so that you do not need to spend time washing up between courses. 

The style of cuisine that you are serving may also play a factor in the type of crockery that you use. Some dishes look better on crockery with a little detail whilst others are best served on crisp white plates. Using white crockery can often be very useful for dinner parties because it is relatively easy to add new items to your collection, even if they are not from exactly the same range. 

Setting the table 

For a formal dinner party you will need to make sure that you have the following items:

1. Tablecloth and linens – these will add texture and elegance to your table – pick something that complements the theme of your dinner party and your crockery. Cloth napkins are essential to add a touch of class, and napkin rings can add a decorative touch.
2. Dinnerware and cutlery – charger plates can be used to add a decorative layer to your place settings. Remember to use appropriately-sized crockery for each course and choose cutlery that complements your dinnerware. 
3. Glassware – for a formal dinner party you will need different glassware for different beverages. Make sure they don’t have any water spots and arrange them in the order of use from left to right.
4. Table décor – whilst you don’t want to overcrowd your table, a centrepiece that fits your theme can make a good focal point in the table. This may be a collection of candles, a floral arrangement or some type of artistic display. Make sure that whatever you opt for doesn’t overcrowd the table and that guests on opposite sides of the table can still see each other to converse.
